About STAGES Charity

Support Training Advice Guidance Educational Services LTD aka STAGES was founded in August 2013 by Katie Read, due to the lack of support available in the area at the time.  Katie and her husband Wayne had been suffering alone and feeling isolated since 2006.

They married in December 2007 and have been struggling their whole marriage with Wayne’s Agoraphobia, Depression and Generalised Anxiety Disorder.  As a result of him self-medicating for many years, prior to diagnosis, Wayne was also diagnosed with alcohol dependency syndrome in 2008 and went into his first detox that year.  Katie began training in holistic therapies in 2011 which she noticed helped to keep Wayne more relaxed.

In 2012 Kawin-big-this-summer - imagetie registered for an Open Degree with the Open University where she studied, Psychology, Health & Social Care, Counselling & Psychotherapy, The Science of the Mind – Mental Health, Challenging Ideas in Mental Health and Management and Business Entrepreneurial Modules.  Katie is now completing her final Module in Social Psychology awaiting her final exam in June 2017.

STAGES ran their first Project in April 2014.  STAGES has supported many local people suffering with Mental Health Illnesses including Bi-Polar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Schizoaffective disorder, PTSD, Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder, OCD, Agoraphobia, Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Alcohol Addiction, Drug Addiction and Panic Attacks. Many of our users have also been suffering with physical disabilities and conditions such as, Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Leukemia, Gallstones, Kidney Stones, Multiskeletal disorders, DVT, ME, COPD and Cancer.  STAGES have been funded 3 years in a row by the Big Lottery “Awards for All fund”, twice by the Northamptonshire Community Foundation  – The Margaret Giffin Fund each time and twice by Corby Borough Council.

STAGES have managed to keep weekly sessions going since their funding ended in October 2016 through Jamie Webster’s fundraising efforts completing the Pain & Suffering Challenge. The 400 foot Lift Tower Abseil and the Three Peaks Challenge.  Jamie was a nominated as a finalist in the Shining Star Awards 2016.

STAGES was chosen as a finalist in this year’s Big Lottery Programme – The People’s Projects in the Anglia West Area.  Unfortunately, they did not receive enough votes to win, however, they are still confident in the future due to the many like-minded people that they met during their People’s Projects Campaign who are also passionate about ending the stigma around Mental Health & Addiction and supporting people in a person-centred holistic way.

STAGES vision is to fill the gap in after-care for recovering addicts and their families and to “Empower” people suffering from all Mental Health conditions and support their families enabling them to find a deeper understanding and some peace and relaxation in

their otherwise stressful lives.  We aim to empower our Service Users to gain back some control of their lives and help them and their loved ones on a journey of self awareness, enhancing their recovery and giving them a greater quality of life and the hope of a brighter more positive future.
