negative energy builds up, causing common ailments, including stress, aches and pains, and hair loss or baldness.
Indian head massage can be carried out with or without the use of oils. When using oils a strapless dress or top should be worn so that the therapist can access all areas. However, this treatment can be given fully clothed without the use of oils, which is how it is normally carried out in corporate/work/office environments.
Reflexology, also known as zone therapy, is an alternative medicine which involves applying pressure to the feet, ears and hands with specific finger, thumb, finger, and hand techniques without using oils or lotions. Reflexology is a system of zones and reflex areas that reflect an image of the body onto the hands and feet, which effects a physical change to the body. The areas on the foot correspond to areas of the body, and by manipulating these, one can improve one’s health through one’s energy flow known by the Chinese as qi and also know as lifeforce. Reflexologists divide the body into ten equal vertical zones, five on the right and five on the left.
Reflexology is an excellent aid to maintaining good health by improving relaxation, alleviating stress, decreasing pain, and promoting faster recovery from invasive procedures, such as surgery. A reflexology session recreates the relaxing effects of a full-body massage without the time investment or need to undress.
Crystal healing is an alternative medicine technique that employs stones and crystals as healing tools. The practitioner places crystals on
When the stones are placed in the area of the chakras the colour of the stones may correspond to the colour which is associated with the corresponding chakra. Going from the tail bone to the top of the head, the colours are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. Stones may also be used at the feet in an attempt at grounding the individual, or held in the hands. Practitioners may also use tools such as crystal wands, which are placed near the receiver’s body, or near a certain ‘blocked’ chakra, or use to perform psychic surgery normally conducted with laser quartz wands.
Crystal healing has been used in many different cultures throughout history, including the Hopi Native Americans of Arizona and the Hawaiian islanders, some of whom still use them to this day. In Egypt, jade amulets were found in the tombs and burial chambers because of their supposed power to guide souls in the afterworld. The Chinese still attribute extensive healing powers to jade, and some other eastern cultures believe that emerald will strengthen the memory and increase intelligence.
In Western Reiki, we have learnt that Reiki works in conjunction with meridian energy lines and the chakras through the use of hand-positions. These hand positions generally correspond with the seven major chakras of the body. They are usually used both on the front and back of the body, and can include specific areas. Chakras are used more frequently within Western Reiki.
The use of the 12 hand positions are believed to energise on many levels, by:
- Energising on a physical level through the warmth of the hands
- Energising on the mental level through the use
of the Reiki symbols
- Energising on the emotional level through the love that flows with the use of the symbols
- Energising on the energetic level though the presence of an initiated practitioner as well as the presence of the Reiki power itself.
